The New Instagram feature is here: Time to reset

Tired of Instagram playing the guessing game with your feed? We come bearing some good news! Meta has finally heard your woes! They’re rolling out a shiny new feature that lets you hit the reset button on the algorithm. Now you can wipe out all those random recommendations cluttering your Explore, Reels, and Feed for a fresh start. Finally, with the new Instagram feature, you have a chance to take control of your scrolling vibes!

What is the new Instagram feature all about?

With the new Instagram feature, you’ll be able to say goodbye to those outdated recommendations and hello to a feed that actually gets you! Meta’s new Instagram feature is here to help you ditch the random accounts you followed in your “awkward phase” and curate content that vibes with the present you. Think of it as a makeover for your Explore, Reels, and Feed — tailored to your current interests.

According to Meta, this update isn’t just about giving users more control — it’s also designed to create a safer, more positive space for teens to grow with their ever-changing interests. But don’t worry, it’s not just for Gen Z, anyone can hit the reset button.

It works like TikTok’s “recommendation refresh” for the For You page, but with a twist. You’ll be able to clean up your feed, review your following list, and remove accounts that no longer spark joy. And while your recommendations will evolve over time based on interactions, the reset is a one-way street — once you hit that button, there’s no going back. Once you hit the refresh button, Instagram will take some time to adjust your feed. Taking reference from your interactions, likes, the content you spend time on, and similar activities, the platform will curate a whole new feed; something you truly enjoy. With this, you have a chance to create an experience that aligns with you and helps you spend your time more intentionally.

What else is in store?

Along with this new update, Meta will be also introducing additional safety measures for teens. There will be more restrictive settings deciding who can interact with the teens and what appears on their Explore and Reels section. This move aligns with Meta’s broader effort to safeguard younger users from potential harm and detrimental content. This is because, of late, Meta has continued to receive immense backlash about Instagram’s impact on the mental health of youth.

Netizens response

While many Instagram users are happy about the new feature, others aren’t exactly cheering. Their gripe? Netizens need bigger fixes — like bringing back the much-loved chronological feed. One user summed it up perfectly: “How about letting us actually see posts from the accounts we follow, in order, and leave suggestions to Explore?” Another added: “Nobody wants to see posts from 5 days ago or just a handful of accounts. We follow people for a reason!”

The nostalgia for Instagram’s original algorithm is real. Back in the day, the app showed posts from people you followed, in order, without the algorithm’s meddling. While users can still mark posts as “interested” or “not interested,” many feel this isn’t enough.

As we wait for this reset feature to roll out globally, netizens are making one thing clear — Instagram’s old-school chronological feed might just be the ultimate reset they’re asking for!
